Aiteo FA Cup: Mgbechi Penalty Heroic Catapult Delta Queens Into Semis

Goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi was superb on the day as she put in a heroin display to help Delta Queens to a 4-3 quarterfinal victory over Heartland Queens Ladies to go through to the Semi-finals of the Aiteo FA Cup.

The encounter played at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu Ode Ogun State gave the fans something to cheer as both sides displayed beautiful football artistry at its best but the goals just wouldn’t come.

NWFL side Delta Queens dominated larger part of the game but were guilty of missing countless goal scoring opportunities, Heartland Ladies defended well to ensure that they forced the game into penalties after it ended goalless at fulltime.

Anderline Mgbechi was the hero as she saved two consecutive penalties to restore hopes for Delta Queens who were trailing 2-1 after Chisom Henry had lost their second kick before substitute Usan Arit stepped up to convert and send Delta Queens in to the Semi-final.

Reacting to her heroic feat after the game the excited Mgbechi attributed her success to God starting it was God who helped her achieve it. “It wasn’t easy but I thank God for everything”, She said.

“When it went into penalties I just said God take control and i was so happy to save two and help my team through.

The goalie stated that the target is to win the trophy adding that they will keep pushing to achieve their set goal.

“The target is to win the trophy, we will keep up the momentum and take every game as it comes”, she concluded.

Delta Queens is expected to file out against FC Robo Queens of Lagos in the Semifinals.
