Asaba 2022: Edo State Deputy Gov Charges Athletes To Go For Gold As Contingent Departs For Delta

About 700 contingent of team Edo,this evening left Benin city for Asaba,Delta state capital for the 2022 National Sports Festival tagged ‘Asaba 2022 Games’ as the Deputy Governor of Edo state Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu charges them to go for gold and be good ambassadors of the state.

The deputy gave them the charge while addressing the team shortly before their departure at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.

He told team Edo to be the best they are known for as they represent the state at the National games.

“I am here to encourage you to be at your very best throughout the 21st National sports Festival in Asaba. Take your mind off anything that is capable of causing you distractions. I want you to know that you are on state assignment representing Edo state government in Asaba. Therefore,be of good conduct, be the best and expect great reward.
” Do not be worried about bonuses or allowances as you go. Be rest assured that everything that is due to you in terms of welfare has been provided and will get to you in full. I wish you well,injury free and success as you serve your father’s land.

The Edo contingent is comprised 537 athletes, 110 coaches, 35 Secretafies with other 17 officials. Team Edo is participating in 36 sports out of the 38 sports available at the Delta games. Edo is not participanting in baseball-Soft Ball and Basketball .

Edo, host of the 2020 edition in Benin,finished second behind their closest neighbours Delta who are now host of the 2022 edition in Asaba and it is expected that the two Bendelites will remain the teams to beat as Edo parades some of the best in the country.

Some of the notable names of athletes in team Edo include
Enoch Adegoke -Athletics 100 and 200M.In weightlifting, Dr Idiakheua -heavyweight while Gbenga Ajulo and Yinka Qudus are the current National tennis double potentential gold medalists in table tennis.
