MFM Football Club Midfielder Akanni Elijah in an Exclusive interview with owosports.com.ng spoke about his journey through professional football, however revealing how challenging it was for him in his first two years as a professional footballer after joining a star studded MFM side in 2015.
“I started playing football at a tender age of 7, It was fun all through as a lad then”, said the midfielder.
“Immediately after my secondary school, I joined some grassroot teams like All Star Football club, Smart striker FC, Tribe of Judah to mention but few, It continued like this till I joined MFMFC in the year 2015.
“I was very excited joining MFMFC, I was quite young then, It was a big one for me then also considering, the team made it to the Professional side almost immediately I joined.
“It was most challenging in the first two years especially when I had to really fight for a shirt in the star studded team, We still have talented midfielders in the team but it was really challenging then.
He also revealed that it took much persuasion from his coaches before his parents could let him play football,
“My parents at first were not in full support but as time went by, they did. Some of my coaches then even had to convince my parents personally assuring them of my potentials.
When asked about who his idol is, the Midfielder revealed that former MFM FC and now Lobi Stars midfielder Onuwa Chukwuka is, alongside Kevin De Bryune of Mancester City.
