The 70th FIFA Congress originally scheduled to be hosted in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia will be held as an online meeting on Friday, 18 September.
The meeting original schedule is affected by concerns over the health and well-being of participants during the COVID-19 global pandemic.
The statement on FIFA website noted that it will not fashionable for such event to hold as travel restrictions on many countries still last.
“At such a critical time, FIFA recognises its responsibility beyond football to ensure that health remains the number one priority.
The virtual option becomes necessary as “the absence of an opportunity to gather together in one venue”could not be achieved even as had wished to organise a Congress which all member associations are able to attend.
“The Bureau of the FIFA Council decided on 12 May to hold the 70th FIFA Congress as an online event. Participants, including FIFA’s 211 member associations, will take part in the Congress via videoconferencing technology.
The statement also revealed that the event will be broadcast live on FIFA.com and FIFA’s YouTube channel as of 09:00 CET on Friday, 18 September 2020.
