Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho was the hero as Leicester City beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 1-0 at the new Wembley Stadium to lift the Community Shield, Owosports.com.ng reports.

Pep Guardiola’s men faced a tough assignment against FA Cup holders Leicester City, and it was the Foxes who started brighter and fresher. City were without some of their English and Brazilian players, with youngsters Sam Edozie and Cole Palmer in the starting XI.

New record £100m signing Jack Grealish made his debut off the bench after a nervy first half that saw Zack Steffen produce a stunning save to keep the scores level.

Manchester City conceded a 89th minute penalty when Nathan Ake brought down former City striker Kelechi Iheanacho who converted to hands The Foxes the title.

The 24-year-old admits he has mixed emotions after scoring today’s winning goal – but he dismissed the idea that Leicester used their advantage when Patson Daka shot on goal following Nathan Ake’s foul on him for the decisive penalty.

“I’ve got mixed emotions, I’m really grateful for getting the trophy today for my team. I’m really happy.

“Yeah, I think it’s a penalty. He caught me, the ref saw it. We played on and he brought it back.”He told ITV.

The Community Shield makes it the second title for both Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi who had earlier won the FA cup after they defeated Chelsea 1-0 to win the English prestigious trophy The FA Cup in May.
