Kwara Sports Commission Proposes Three Stadia In 2022 Budget, As State Finished All Time High In Youth Games

In its bid to take sports development in to the grassroots with a view of discovering more talents, the leadership of Kwara State Sports Commission will be proposing a Stadium each for  the three Senatorial district of Kwara State in the 2022 fiscal policy.

Speaking to the newsmen at the closing ceremony of the 6th National Youth Games(NYG) in Ilorin on Tuesday, the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission,Coach Bola Magaji revealed that he will be presenting and defending the budget on today, Wednesday, October 20th.

He commended all the athletes and officials for their performances and expressed his delight at the feat in the just concluded NYG, adding that the team has received a massive support from the government, hence the performance was justified.

“I’m telling you that in the budget that we are going to present tomorrow (Wednesday October 20th), we are proposing a stadium in each Senatorial district, already they have one in offa we want to upgrade it, that of Lafiagi we want to upgrade it- we are going to put it in the budget and I’m going to defend the budget” revealed the Chairman.

Stressing that Sports is not only played in the central but need to go deep into the grassroots so that the best can be achieved, the experienced sports administrator believes that the commission is going to have the support of Governor on its agenda.

“I grew up through sports and athletes under the age of 18 around the world are not given cash reward, so not only those who won alone, but everybody will be taken care of in terms of Schools and scholarship and some other things ,we will talk to the excellency to give them something” reacted Coach Magaji on reward of athletes.

He reitrated the need for Sports to gp back to go back to the grassroots, noting that most of the athletes who participated in the event were discovered from grassroots but not metropolis.

Kwara finished 6th on the log of the final medals table of  NYG with 10 gold,10 silver and 12 bronze medals- a feat which speaks to the volume of the new fortunes that has befallen the State in terms of Sports development.

Magaji had earlier stated in an interview that the state had registered about 300 athletes and officials for the event.
