Kwara State Under 20 Male Football team defeated their counterpart from Lagos State 4-0 in the final event of the Annual Nigeria’s President National Under-20 Football Championship.
The final played at the Kwara State Sports Complex in Ilorin is the 18th edition of the championship annually organized by African Youth Sports Federation (AYSOF).
Speaking at the event, The President of (AYSOF), Dr. Ahmed Lawal commends the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for hosting and sponsoring the Championship final and Closing ceremony.
Dr. Ahmed explained the championship which had all its preliminaries played in Abuja is organized to preach love ,unity, peaceful co-existence and to also keep the youths of the country away from social vices.
He urged the Governor not to relent in his keen bid to revitalize Sports in the State as he called for more support for the AYSOF, Kwara State branch.
While giving his own remarks, the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who was represented by the State Commissioner of Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Joana Kolo, commends the organizers for putting the championship together while adding that his administration will continue to support any initiative that will help youths development noting that Sports is key to the agenda.
While acknowledging some of the initiative that has been put in place to rejuvenate Sports in the State, he made mention of the recent approval of fund for the Kwara United transition to NPFL and the ongoing renovation of the Baseball and Softball Court which is the first of it’s kind in the country.
It was however later announced that the winner of the championship, Kwara State will be participating in the 10th Annual Amjad Ezzi International Under 20 Male and Female Championship in Sharjah Wonder Sports Centre, Sharjah, United Arab Emirate(UAE) Dubai scheduled to hold from February,2020.
