Lawmakers Call For Right Leadership As Kwara Assembly Pass Sports Commission Bill Into Law

In what could be described as another move to institutionalise sports in Kwara State and reposition it as a critical sector for human and capital development, members of Kwara State House of Assembly has passed the “Kwara State Sports Commission Amendment Bill” into law.

According to Opeyemi Adeoti ,a journalist attached to the assembly , the bill was passed on Tuesday after considering the report of the House Committee on Information, Youths, Sports, Culture and Tourism chaired by a lawmaker representing Isin Constituency, Hon. Awolola Olumide Ayokunle.

Several Lawmakers who spoke in support of the bill emphasized the need for competent and qualified sports administrators to lead the commission which they believe will bring a lot of fortunes to the State.

Hajia Halimah Jummai Kperogi, the clerk of the 9th assembly read the bill for the third time and before it was eventually passed

Consequently, Honourable Yakubu Salihu Danladi, the speaker of the house has directed Clerk to forward the copy of the bill for Governor’s assent.

Among many other things, Kwara Sports Commission Amendment Bill is expected to put in place blueprints and operational drive that will transform sports in the state.

It would be recalled that the House of assembly had invited the general public for a hearing on the bill on Thursday, 29th of April 2021.
