Lookman, Osimhen On Target As Napoli Came From Goal Down To Beat Atlanta 2-1

Nigeria International attacking duo of Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen were in action as Atlanta lost 2-1 at home to Napoli at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo on Saturday night.

An encounter which prove pivotal in the Serie A title race this season saw Atlanta handed an opportunity to take the lead in the 19th minute through a penalty kick after fellow Nigerian Victor Osimhen handled the ball in the box.

Ademola Lookman, 25, converted from the spot to record his sixth league goals in 13 appearances this season as Gian Piero Gasperini’s men took an early lead.

Osimhen then corrected his mistake by restoring parity for the league leaders four minutes later as he headed in from Piotr Zielinski’s lofted cross to extend his league tally to eight goals from eight appearances this season.

The 23-year-old Nigerian striker then turned provider 10 minutes before the break as he passed to Eljif Elmas whose shot found the back of the net to hand Napoli a lead at half time.

Napoli then held on to record their 11th win of the season and extended their lead at the summit to six points ahead of AC Milan who defeated Spezia later in the day.

Victor Osimhen has scored more Serie A goals (32) than Simeon Nwankwo (31), becoming the best Nigerian scorer in Serie A history.

While Atlanta recorded their second defeat of the campaign to remain second on the log with 27 points from 13 games.
