NPFL Wrap Up: Picking Up The Pieces of Match Day 27.


It was yet another day of highs and lows in the NPFL 2020/2021 season. Some teams were able to amplify their thrust towards targets while others suffered defeat which had dampening effects on their campaign.

Featuring just an away win, a total number of 27 goals were recorded,three of the goals from the penalty mark while Nazifi Yahaya of Wikki Tourists got the only hattrick of the day.

Heartland 2-1 Jigawa Golden Stars

Heartland cruised home to victory in Okigwe as they defeated their visitors from Jigawa 2-1.

Even as Coach Gilbert Opana led Jigawa Golden Stars were able to effect their presence on the scoreline, the homeside stood firmly in response to their onslaught to birth a new breathe after their last game where they lost to Akwa United amid several  reports of how the players and coaches are still being owed.

Warri Wolves 0-1 Dakkada

Kareem Abdoulaye was the hero as Dakkada secured the maximum points away from home- Being the only team to achieve the feat in the week under review.

Rangers 4-1 Sunshine Stars

Rain of goals at ‘The cathedral’ in Enugu as Rangers International thumped the struggling Sunshine Stars 4-1.

It was the second defeat of the new Sunshine Stars Coach Deji Ayeni in three matches and perhaps their thirteenth of the season.

The result further compounded the woes of the Owena Waves with their efforts to survive relegation suffering yet another big blow after their 1-0 over Dakkada in the midweek clash.

Kwara United 1-0 MFM FC

What a tough-saoked game in Ilorin. The Olukoya Boys from Lagos stood firmly in the bid to maintain their unbeaten streak but the homeside profited from  their skipper’s efforts from the spot kick twelve minutes to the final whistle to maintain their impressive run at home.

Kastina United 3-1 Enyimba

To the surprise of football enthusiasts, Enyimba FC were caught off guard at Mohammmed Dikko Stadium in Katsina as they lost 3-1.

It was their seventh defeat in the  current season and perhaps the highest of it.

While the people’s elephant consolation goal came from the Super Eagles new boy,Anayo Iwuala, the victory handed  Katsina United a boost in their bid to secure a comfortable place on the log and move some inches up from the threat of the red zone.

Abia Warrior 2-0 Lobi Stars

Chukwuemeka Obioma and Samson Paul goals for Abia Warriors led the Coach Imama Amapakabo to their eighth win of the season.

Adamawa United 2-0 Rivers United

Here comes another surprise package of the matchday 27.
Adamawa United did the unthinkable when they defeated the Pride of Rivers 2-0.

While Hassan Surajo had opened the scoreline for the homeside in the 12th minutes of the game, Fabian Nworie’s own goal in the 39th minutes would eventually served the relegation threatened Adamawa their fourth victory of the season to savour.

Wikki Tourist 4-3 Ifeanyi Ubah

It was an end to end affairs in Bauchi when FC Ifeanyi Ubah narrowly lost to Wikki Tourists in that 7 goals thriller encounter.

The game saw Nazifi Yahaya of Wikki securing hattrick while Ekene Awaziem of Ifeanyi Ubah maintained his goal scoring form with another two goals after his exploits against Kwara United in their last game where he also netted twice.

Nasarawa Utd 2-0  Plateau United

Chinedu Ohanachom and Silas Nwankwo were on the score sheet when Nasarawa United defeated their arch rival from Jos 2 nil in the return leg of the North Central derby.

Silas Nwankwo who scored from the penalty mark is now leading the top scorers chart  after scoring his eleventh goal of the season .

Kano Pillars 0-0 Akwa United

It was the biggest game of the day but suffered some set backs.

Just some five minutes to the end of the game, Nyima Nwagua powered home an header from Ahmed Musa’s assist but was ruled offside.

The aftermath of that scenario saw the Kano Pillars fans encroaching  the pitch thereby disrupting the continuation of the match.

However, action eventually resumed back on Monday morning and the game ended all square with Akwa United still maintaining their top of the league position with 50 points.
