The People’s Elephant started the match with a clear intent as they pressed early for an opener but failed to get a clear chance or shot on goal.
The first chance of the match was created by Kano Pillars legend, Rabiu Ali. The veteran midfielder got the ball at the edge of the box and released a pass to Yusuf Maigoro who ran behind the Enyimba defense and shot on goal but goalkeeper, Noble Young stretched to keep it off for a corner kick
Enyimba’s first chance fell to Ekundayo Ojo who met the ball after moments of slick passes from Enyimba but his shot past Idris Ibrahim narrowly missed the target.
Enyimba’s opener finally came in the 20th minute after Anayo Iwuala dribbled his way into the Kano Pillars box and unleashed a shot past Idris Ibrahim.
Kano Pillars grew in confidence after the goal and pressed for an equalizer and came close in the 26th minute after a fine pass from Rabiu Ali met David Ebuka but the striker missed the target
Enyimba doubled their lead in the 37th minute when Dayo Ojo found Gabriel Orok running into space after a brilliant Enyimba counter attack and sent the pass to him. The dazzling winger made no mistake as he shot past the helpless Idris Ibrahim. Orok came close to getting a double two minutes later but Orok missed a one-on-one chance with Idris Ibrahim at his mercy.
The goals did not dampen Kano Pillars’ zeal and they came close to getting a goal in the 40th minute when Fahad Usman’s freekick from a long range came off the bar
Both teams played exciting football in the second half and had chances including a chance for Orok in the 52nd minute when he failed to put the ball beyond Idris Ibrahim after coming Face-to-face with the impressive goalkeeper who had many saves in the game
