Striker of Lobi Stars Football club Austin Ogunyi has expressed his displeasure following the cancellation of the 2019/2020 season which has ended their continental hopes.
The Nigeria Professional Football League which has been on suspension since March was however declared cancelled following a meeting held by League Management Company Board members and the Club owners.
They however resolved to the Point Per Game (PPG) format favouring league leaders Plateau United and Rivers United and Enyimba for next season CAF inter-clubs championship, Enyimba who were fifth on the log with Five outstanding games picked one of the continental ticket after the adoption of PPG.
The former MFM and Bendel Insurance Striker speaking to journalist on a WhatsApp platform on Tuesday night, commended the decision to end the season looking at the health challenges, but was totally against the adoption of the PPG format.
“Personally speaking I would have preferred the league to be concluded but again we can’t risk the lives of individual because we want to play football,” he said
“The cancellation of the league is a bit okay looking at the health part of it, but using the PPG format is a disadvantage to us if you see we were 3rd position on the log, but after using the PPG we fell to fouth which is not good for us because we are now denied the chance of representing in the Confederation cup, so personally speaking I don’t think it okay, if you follow the news you see that our chairman has been going against it.
“If they wanted to use PPG they should have calculated it from Match day 20 where every other clubs have played up to twenty games not giving some clubs adavantage over the other.
“It has really affected us ending the league the way it is now, our aim was to get a continental ticket.
“With effort and hardwork put in this season ending it this way with Lobi not getting a continental slot is not good for us.
