Rohr Hints On Possible Ighalo Super Eagles Return

Gernot Rohr has hinted on a possible Super Eagles return of Al Shabab of Saudi Arabia signing Odion Ighalo, reports.

The former Manchester United loanee called it quits with the national team just after inspiring Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2019 AFCON tournament in Egypt where he emerged as tournament’s top scorer.

Ighalo netted a total of five goals in the tournament where he scored in the group opener against Burundi, bagged a brace against rivals Indimitable Lions of Cameroon in the round of 16; netted Nigerians consolation from the spot against Algeria in the semi-finals and the winner against Tunisia in the third-place game, as the Super Eagles clinched their record 8th Bronze medal at the African Cup of Nations.

The Franco-German tactician admitted that the striker has not totally been ruled out of the national team despite announcing his retirement, insisting that the door for a possible return is still wide open.

“Playing regularly in Saudi is not a reason to eliminate a good player from Super Eagles.” He told The Nation sports.

The former Watford of England striker won 35 caps for the Super Eagles scoring 16 goals before announcing his retirement in 2019.
