De AbdulBest have been crowned Champions of the 2nd edition of the Sea Never Dry U-17 Football Competition which was concluded today at the Supreme Distilleries Field Iju-Ota, Ogun State.
De AbdulBest came out victorious following a 4-2 penalty shootout win over SGL on Sunday evening after the match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes of football.
It was a keenly contested final as both sides came to party with the trophy in sight.
De AbdulBest Wasiu Jimoh fired De AbdulBest in front with a classical finish after a defensive blunder by SGL back line in the 35th minutes.
SGL gave an instant reply five minutes after Jimoh had put his side in front, following a defensive blunder by Teslim Ibraheem who fouled Segun Abiodun right inside the box as the referee wasted no time as he awarded a penalty to SGL.
Shittu Oluwatobi stepped up and sent Abiodun Adebayo in goal for De AbdulBest the wrong way as he converted to restored parity, 1-1 it ended at halftime.
Match officials The Second half began with much intensity as both teams continued from where they had stopped in the first half as they came at each other in search of the winning goal but the defense of both side solid and determined not to let in any goal.
It went into penalties after it ended 1-1 after regulation time, Johnson Olaleye with the first kick for De AbdulBest converted his kick, Shittu Oluwatobi who scored from the spot to draw his side level, misses this time in the shootout with Arabanda Shehu who also missed the last kick after De AbdulBest had scored all of their four kicks as they emerged champions 4-2.
SGL Embassy had earlier defeated Gbademu 1-0 in the loser’s final as they emerged second runner’s up of the competition.
Some individual awards was given out, Abioduno Adebayo who conceded just one goal all through the tourney was named the goalkeeper of the tournament, Odunbaku Junior the top Scorer with five goals, 36 Lion Academy the enterprising team of the competition.
