SGL beat El-Cadis 2-0 to seal the final semifinal slot of the Sea Never Dry grassroots competition played on Friday evening at the Supreme Distilleries football field in Iju Ota Ogun State, OwoSports reports.
SGL started brightly, should have gone ahead early in the 6th minutes after Abiodun Segun failed to control a perfect through ball played across to him which also beat the goalkeeper to roll past the front of goal.
Abiodun Segun however made amends for his earlier miss minutes later as he fired SGL into the lead in the 15th minutes powering a beautiful right footed volley from close range as the helpless goalkeeper had no chance.
The Ketu based club, SGL increased their goal tally just before the half time break after the goalkeeper failed to properly deal with long range strike from Odunbaku Junior as he allowed the ball to pass through his legs, 2-0 it was at half time.
El-Cadis were vastly improved after the break but yet couldn’t break down the resiliance SGL defence, despite having the game in control it was SGL who where gifted with a chance to further increased their goal tally late on in the game as Odunbaku Junior was put through on goal the midfielder headed for his brace however rounded the goalkeeper before side netting his efforts in what was his last action of the game as he was forced out injured.
The referee ended the game with the score at 2-0, a result that saw SGL sealing the last semifinal spot following the win.
Proceedings will resume at the Supreme Distilleries football field on Tuesday as the first semifinal of the competition will see De Abdul Best come up against Embassy, while SGL go head to head against Gbademu FC in the second semifinal on Wednesday.
