South Africa confirm interest to host this year’s FIFA Club World Cup

The South African Football Association (SAFA) have indicated interest in hosting the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup.

This followed after the initial hosts Japan, pulled out earlier this month due to COVID-19 concerns with just less than three months before the tournament, South Africa has now emerged as one of the possible emergency hosts.

The SA federation’s president, Dr. Danny Jordaan has since been asked to confirm the reports.

“We’ll know our position by the end of the week,” Jordaan said in a taciturn response via the Associated Press.

Meanwhile, South African football fans will be hugely excited at the prospect of hosting European champions Chelsea in Mzansi. Other confirmed teams are African champions Al Ahly and Auckland City of New Zealand, while the rest of the seven teams are yet to be confirmed.
