UCL: Bassey Stars As Ajax Clinch Europa League Ticket

Calvin Bassey was in action for the entire duration as Ajax defeated his former club Glasgow Rangers 3-1 at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Calvin Bassey who has featured in all of Ajax’s six group games impressed at his former home ground as Dutch Champions Ajax sealed their place in the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League.

The 22-year-old made his 15th appearance for Ajax this season in all competitions starting alongside Timber at the heart of the defense in Glasgow.

Ghana international, Mohammed Kudus assisted Steven Berghuis as Ajax opened the scoring in the fourth minute.

Kudus who was a provider of the first goal, turned scorer as Ajax doubled their lead.

Right back James Tavernier scored from the spot in the 87 minutes to pull one back for Rangers before Portuguese Fransisco Conceicao handed Ajax the minute to the 90s as Ajax ended their run of four straight defeats in UCL, with the Amsterdam-based club recording their second win in group B.

At the Doosan Arena, Fortune Bassey was a second-half substitute in Viktoria Plzen’s 4-2 home defeat to Barcelona.

Fortune Bassey replaced Tomas Chory in the 63rd minute as Viktoria Plzen bowed out of the Champions League with 0 wins from all six group stage games.
