Victor Udoh: A Future Secured In Table Tennis

The National Youth Games is an initiative of the federal Ministry for Youth and Sports put in place to discover raw talent that would go on to represent Nigeria at the highest level.

Giving the teens a platform to showcase their skills, Victor Udoh from Bayelsa State was one of the name that made good impression on the fans and supporters alike who have come out to watch the game of Table tennis.

Despite not making it to the Finals in the singles event, it’s unarguable to say that Victor Udoh is definitely a player for the future as we country hope to produce more a Tennis stars who would continue in the legacy of the legendary Aruna Quadri.

With sharp reflexes, quick reaction and impressionable moves at the edge of the table, the young lad is a big prospect for the ping pong game

Victor, who represented team Bayelsa lost in the Quarter Final of the boys table tennis singles to Ola Adeyemi of Team Ogun.

Speaking to www.owosports.com.ng after his clash,
He cited fear and anxiety towards his opponent who looked ‘bigger’ as the reasons why he lost the game.

“I don’t know what really happened, I won the first set and the second set. I was leading at some point but lost concentration and that mistake cost me and he took it.

“I have learnt to be focused and Confidence in every game and not be scared of my opponent” Says the lad.

Victor revealed that his sister who is also a table tennis player motivated him into the game at a young age.

“I started playing tennis at age Nine, my sister who is a table tennis player motivated me into going into the sports and I’m happy doing it”,

Speaking to the Sister Ofonime Ebong who has represented Nigeria in the table tennis event at the All Africa games on two occasions, she stated that Victor has nothing to worry about after his defeat.

“The South South Zonal Table tennis chairman in
Bayelsa state has made available facilities for Victor to ensure that he doesn’t lack anything or get distracted”.

With this assurance coming from Chairman,one can only hope that the future of Victor as a Table tennis player is secured.

For Victor, he can always employ the spirit you win some and lose some, because he has a lot to offer in a view of his dexterity.

Victor won himself a silver medal in the boys table tennis doubles losing to team Kwara in a keenly contested final.
