Victor Wanyama Announces Retirement From International Football

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder and Kenyan captain Victor Wanyama has announced his retirement from international football, Owosports.com.ng reports.

In a statement on his social media, the 30-year-old thanked fans for their support over the years, saying it was time ‘to pass the mantle to younger players’.

He said “From making my debut against Nigeria to captaining the team in the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt, – these past 14 years have gone beyond what I thought was possible”

“We have shared great moments together and I’m proud to have been your captain and leader,”

“It has been an honor to represent my Country and I think the time has come for me to pass the mantle to the young ones,I’ll always be a of the National Team and their biggest supporter.

Wanyama has been part of the national team set-up for years now, memorably captaining the team in the AFCON finals in Egypt in 2019
