Uganda CAF Stadium Inspector, Ivan Bayige Kintu has arrived Liberia for the inspection of the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex ahead of the Qatar 2022 Worldcup qualifying Match against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Samuel Kanyon Doe is home to Lone Star since the stadium was opened in 1986, but was sanctioned this year by CAF and FIFA ahead of the 2022 Qatar World Cup Qualifiers after the football governing bodies deemed the venue not conducive for FIFA competitions.
The SKD is amongst several venues across the African continent that is being banned from hosting 2022 Qatar World Cup Qualifiers over CAF Licensing Stadium Requirements for the improvement of African football.
Liberia host Nigeria on the penultimate day of the 2022 Qatar campaign before ending the qualifiers with a home game with Central African Republic (CAR) on Match Day 6. The Liberia Ministry Youth and Sports and the Liberia Football Association still think the SKD hosting these matches is a reality following Kintu’s inspections.
In view of the above, provisional works had been done on the stadium since this year and it’s the fourth time SKD is being inspected in Liberia’s bid to host a home game since September 2019.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has done varieties of works on different areas of the SKD including: Medical Room, Official Rooms, Team Dressing Rooms, VVIP and VIP Lounges, Stadium Control Room, Bathroom facilities, Media Tribune and Media Room, and etc.
The playing pitch, bucket seats, floodlights, and turnstile (electronic ticket system) are amongst key facilities that the Ministry of Sports and the Liberia Football Association (LFA) reckoned were still challenges.
Kintu’s inspections, will be followed by a decision from FIFA after the CAF Inspector has filed in his report.
While in Liberia, Ivan Bayige Kintu will meet with Liberian Sports Minister D. Zogar Wilson in an effort to discuss the prospects of the SKD. Mr. Kintu leaves Liberia tomorrow via ASKY Airlines on Sunday.
