Renowned veteran golfer, Peter Akakasiaka, has praised the organizers of the Ilorin ICMA PRO-AM golf tournament, currently taking place at the Ilorin Golf Club.
Akakasiaka expressed his satisfaction with the tournament’s management, noting that the presence of top golfers from across Nigeria reflects the organizers’ commitment to a smooth and high-quality four-day event.
“The organizers have done a great job,” Akakasiaka remarked after participating in an exhibition game.
“The golf course is in perfect condition—green, neat, and clean, ready for play. They provided us with
everything we need.”
He also commended ICMA Professional Services, led by Mallam Faruq Ismail, for sponsoring the tournament and supporting the growth of golf in Nigeria.
Reflecting on his experience as the only Nigerian to have played at the British Open, Akakasiaka emphasized the importance of sponsorship in nurturing talent and enhancing the sport’s accessibility.
Addressing misconceptions, he stated that golf is not only for the elite; it’s a game for everyone. The ICMA PRO-AM Open tournament will continue at the Ilorin Golf Club and is set to conclude on Monday.
