The last game of the first round of the 2024 Nigeria Beach Soccer League between the past winners of the league lived up to the pre-match hype as both sides were not separated after regulation time.
Kebbi BSC and Kada BSC played out a 2-2 draw taking the match into extra time and penalties where the league holders triumphed 5-4.
Goals from Fuad Badmus and captain Ekene Obi had given the top-ranked beach soccer team in Africa a two-goal lead.
Tanko Emmanuel and Victor Tale who scored against his younger brother, Godwin Tale took the game into extra time.
With both sides tied after extra time, penalties were imminent as Kebbi Fishers secured a 5-4 win in a dramatic fashion.
The Kebbi Fishers goalkeeper, Godwin Tale, showed a lot of class and experience saving two penalties in spectacular fashion to earn his team a win and was awarded the man of the match in the end.
The game witnessed a massive turnout of fans at the Filin Sukuwa pitch, Sanni Abacha bye pass, Birnin Kebbi.
Fans stayed glued to the game despite the huge wind and signs of rainfall which marred the game.
On the other hand, debutant, Jigawa Golden Stars BSC picked their second win of the campaign with a 5-2 triumph over Kebbi United BSC.
Idowu Akintunde who has scored two own goals so far converted three to help his side to a previous win while Mustapha Umar and Bagudu Hamza also found the back of the net.
Monday Joseph and Uzairu Muhammed reduced the deficit for the host team.
In the morning match, Anambra Warriors BSC edged Nmanko Patigi BSC 5-4 thanks to Chinweze Gabriel’s hat-trick and a goal each from Nwo King Emeka and Clement Ekujumi.
Kada BSC had earlier defeated Jigawa Golden Stars 6-4 in the second morning game.
Idowu Akintunde (own goal), Tanko Emmanuel, Mammah James, and Dozie Frank scored for the Kaduna based side.
Bagudu Hamza and Akintunde who scored at both ends converted for Jigawa.
With the conclusion of first round, focus will now shift to the second round in Nnewi, Anambra State.
