Nigerian Rivers Angels are on the verge of elimination from the Totalenergies Women champions league following a second defeat to South African Mamelodi Sundowns who tops Group B, after their 1-0 victory at the El Salam Stadium, Cairo on Tuesday evening.

The South Africans raised their tally to six points on top of the group, three more than Kenya’s Vihiga Queens and Morocco’s ASFAR. Nigeria’s Rivers Angels trail the group pointless.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Captain, ZANELE PORTIA NHLAPHO, scored what proved to be the game’s lone goal at the 17th minute, as Massandawna recorded their second identical 1-0 of the tournament.

Rivers Angels tried to get back in the match but could not turn the chances into goals.

The defeat didn’t go down well with Coach Edwin Okon who expressed his disappointment stating how heart broken he is, “This Defeat Breaks my heart as a coach” he said.

“It was a good game, but not from our side. We created many chances but did not score. But the goal we conceded is what makes me unhappy.

River Angels who are now face with elimination will take on Vihiga Queens of Kenya in their final group game on Friday at the June 30 stadium in Cairo.
