Head coach of SGFC Athletics Sporting Club, Mohammed Elegbede, expressed his delight after his team’s thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Dino Sporting on day two of the 2025 Jagaban Cup.
The match, played at the Legacy Pitch in Surulere Lagos on Tuesday, saw Dino Sporting take an early lead through Obudu Samuel’s 17th-minute strike. However, SGFC Athletics fought back, with Okwousa Chukwudi and Ayodeji Abayomi scoring crucial goals in the 32nd and 48th minutes, respectively to secure the win.
The win takes SGFC Athletics to the top of Group B with a perfect six points from two games, setting them up nicely for their final group game against Imperial FC on Wednesday.
Coach Elegbede in a post match interview praised his team’s resilience and determination. “We’re thrilled with the win, though we started poorly but we were able to navigate that challenging period after making some substitutions.”
He also highlighted the impact of introducing experienced players to the squad, “The introduction of experienced players has been a turning point for us. Since the Evolution Cup, we’ve recruited matured players to our squad, and it’s yielding positive results.”
Coach Elegbede reiterated his team’s ultimate goal, saying, “Our ultimate goal remains winning the tournament, and we’re taking it one game at a time.”
SGFC Athletics will look to maintain their winning momentum when they face Imperial FC in their final group game on Wednesday.
