At just 15, forward Adebiyi Opeyemi is already showing great promise, scoring his first professional goal in the matchday 7 fixtures of the ongoing Nationwide Division One League One (NLO) 2023/2024 against Dohz FC. Despite the defeat, his performance leaves SGFC Athletics with plenty of positives to take away.
The match began with Dohz FC taking an early lead in the 14th minute, courtesy of Alawaye Muhammed’s expert finish after being put through on goal by Captain Oni Adebayo.
However, Opeyemi Adebiyi equalized for SGFC Athletics in the 37th minute with a calm, close-range header from a cross, capitalizing on being left unmarked by the defense.
Dohz FC regained their lead in the 52nd minute through a controversial goal scored by Irebamide Qudus, which was deemed onside by center referee Abdulquadri Babaita, despite SGFC Athletics’ protests.
Adebiyi’s goal marks a promising start to his professional career, and SGFC Athletics will look to build on this performance in their upcoming matches.
