Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has hinted on a possible national team retirement after the 2022 Worldcup in Qatar after revealing that the 2021 African cup of Nations currently ongoing in Cameroon could be his last with the Super Eagles, Owosports.com.ng reports
The 29-year-old who made his AFCON debut in 2013 with Nigeria emerging champions also won bronze in his second appearance in 2019 will however be looking to call it quit on a high adding a second winning medal to his 2013 medal.
“I think this is my last AFCON InShaa Allah”, Musa said in his pre-match presser ahead of the Super Eagles opener against Egypt on Tuesday.
“I have spoken to the boys that this is the only gift you can give to me because this is my last AFCON. And the boys told me that they are ready.
“My first AFCON was in South Africa in 2013 and we ended up winning it. And my second appearance was in Egypt and we won the bronze.”
Musa became the first Nigerian to score more than once in a FIFA World Cup match, after scoring twice against Argentina in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
He’s also the first Nigerian to score in two FIFA World Cup competitions, after scoring twice against Iceland in the group stage of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Ahmed Musa is the current most cap super Eagles player with 103 caps after making his debut in 2010.
