The Confededation of African Football (CAF) has pegged the stadium capacity for the upcoming AFCON between 60% and 80%.
The restrictions, which was disclosed on Wednesday on the official website of CAF became imperative in the face of the growing infection of Omicron variant of Covid-19.
It noted that, the resolution, which was reached following an extensive consultation with Cameroon government
“Following extensive consultation with Cameroon government in the light of the health crisis and the challenges imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, CAF and the Local Organising Committee have agreed to cap the capacity of the stadiums during the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cameroon 2021, between 60% and 80%.” Said the statement.
It further stressed that “The 80% capacity will apply only during host nation, Cameroon, matches while the rest of the matches will be capped at 60% capacity”.
Recall that the organisers and the Cameroonian goverment had earlier agreed some set health protocols guiding the continental showpiece, among which is that: vaccinated supporters will be allowed inside the match venues.
Cameroon will play host to Burkina Faso in the opening game of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations when it commenced on Sunday, 9 January 2022 at Olembe Stadium in Yaounde. Hosts at 5pm local time.
