Ahead of the Round of 16 clash against Carthage Eagles of Tunisia, Super Eagles interim Boss, Austin Eguavoen has emerged the Best Manager of the Group Stage games at the ongoing African cup of Nations TotalEnergiesAFCON in Cameroon.
Eguavoen has impressed many Nigerians for leading Super Eagles to the second round of the tournament- securing Nine maximum points from Group D.
Nigeria defeated Egypt (0-1), Sudan (3-1) and Guinea-Bissau (2-0) in the group stage games, becoming the only team to cross over with such incredible results.
The feat, was first and last achieved by Eguavoen himself as the Manager in charge of the Eagles in 2006 Nations Cup.
Meanwhile, the gaffer in the wake of his impressive run has been touted to get a permanent role as the Manager of the three times AFCON winners.
No doubt, his suave, tactical and technical impetus must have endeared him to the NFF who are now considering him to retain the job.
Recall that the NFF had earlier appointed Jose Paseiro to take charge of the team after AFCON, it is however not clear whether the football governing body would harmonize the deal of the Portuguese who hasn’t been seen in Cameroon.
It was earlier reported that the former Venezuela Manager would be an observer at continental showpiece in a bid to further monitor and master the team.
Recall, as the Technical Director of the NFF, Cerezo as he is fondly called was draft in to take charge of the team last year December after the sacking of Coach Gernot Rohr
Reports suggest that he might also maintain his former role in the new package being planned by the NFF.
The round of 16 encounter between Nigeria and Tunisia is billed for Sunday January 23rd at the Roumdé Adjia Staduim in Garoua at 8pm.
