Hockey at Africa qualifying game came to an end on Sunday with South Africa men and women claiming the trophy and securing qualification to the Olympic Games Paris 2024 at the University of Pretoria.
The women’s team were the first to win and claim the ticket, beating Nigeria 9-0 in the finals. The men’s team faced Egypt in a narrowed 2-1 victory to claim the ticket.
After beating Nigeria 4-0 in their Pool A fixture, South Africa came with full confidence with the hope of getting the Olympic ticket to France.
Lombard did not allow Nigeria to settle as she gave the host an early lead in the first minutes of the encounter, she went on the score hart-trick.
Du Toit Jean-Leigh, Bobbs Quanita, Wood Bianca, Augousti Taheera, Isaacs, Paris-Gail, Paton Kristen were all recommended theirs names on the score sheet as Nigeria could not break into South Africa defence.
It was a fight to finish battle for the men team as Ryan Julius scored the winning goal that separated the two sides.
