The earlier scheduled June and July month for the next AFCON has now witnessed a change of month and date.

Recall that AFCON 2021 was formerly scheduled for June

The African football governing body, CAF, while presenting the rationale behind the shift of date said the weather condition and to avoid the clash with the new FIFA Club World Cup dates.

“AFCON in Cameron will be played in January & February because of weather condition and to avoid the clash with the new FIFA Club World Cup dates”.

It was said that the new development is not going to be a persistent feature of the continent largest bi-annual football fiesta as the change of month will only reflect the next edition and not the subsequent ones.

The 24 teams featuring Championship was last won by Algeria National Team last year in Egypt.
