African Games 2023: Ghana Women Beat Nigeria To Win Gold In Hockey

Ghana women’s national hockey team have won gold in the Women’s hockey event of the 13th African Games after beating their neighbor, Nigeria 5-4 via penalty in Accca on Friday.

The black stick secured their first gold medal in hockey after coming 4th in 2003 in Abuja.

It was a fight to finish battle between the two teams as Nigeria forced the game to penalty after holding the favorite to a goalless draw after 4th quarter of the encounter.

 

 Ghanaian shot stopper Abigael Boye stood her ground to rescue the Osei Boakye Yiadom’s ladies after saving 4 spot kick.

Earlier, Ghana had defeated Nigeria 1-0 in the group stage en route to the final.

Peter ukwudilli’ ladies were resilient to grab the little opportunity, but Ghana were lucky to win the competition.

owever, Egypt men’s hockey team beat ghana 3-1 after the game ended 2-2 in regulation time.
