The sky is the limit for Morocco, the only African side among the quarterfinalist of the 2022 edition of the Mundial in Qatar to aim for history becoming the first ever African country to reach the semifinals of a FIFA World Cup.
The Atlas Lions progressed from a difficult group that had European heavyweights like Croatia and Belgium and the African country unexpectedly finished top of the group.
The North African side will be aiming for more histories in Qatar after achieving the feat of becoming the fourth African country after Cameroon in 1990, Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010 to reach the last eight of the the world cup.
Morocco is the lowest FIFA ranked team among the eight countries left in Qatar and they are aiming to make an upset of another of another European establishment Portugal after shocking the World by beating Spain on penalties in the last 16.
The North African side under the management of countryman and charismatic ‘Walid Regragui’ are a well drilled team and have based their display in Qatar on defensive solidarity that has conceded only one goal in four matches.
They will face in ominous form, the Portuguese who are still basking in the euphoria of their big win against Switzerland in the round of 16, are a big daunting task for any team in world football.
The stage is set to fixture a match between Morocco and Portugal for a place in the last four of the World Cup.
There’s no doubt how big the occasion is to Africa, will this Morocco young side defy odds and achieve immortality by becoming African first representative in semifinals of the World Cup or fail to live to the expectations place on them by a continent.
You will rarely see a bigger night in African football.
