Gernot Rohr has informed that Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa asked that he played the AFCON 2021 Qualifiers against Benin Republic from the bench, reports OwoSports.com.
The Super Eagles came from behind to beat the Squirrels of Benin Republic 2⃣-1⃣ at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Wednesday.
Benin Squirrels took the lead in the 3rd minute after Stephane Sessegnon took advantage of a sloppy Eagles defending to silence the Uyo.
Victor Osimhen made sure Nigeria don’t go into the dressing room with a goal down as he scored the equalizing goal from the penalty spot after a Squirrel fouled Ola Aina in the box.
Samuel Kalu then scored the match winner from a solo effort in the 62nd minute of the game.
Rohr said in the post match conference, “Good to have a captain like Musa, he told me yesterday (Tuesday) to retain the line-up that played our previous games.”
For the Al-Nasr of Saudi Arabia striker : “I don’t have to play, we have young players in the team and we have to build for the future.”
Nigeria who top Group L with 3⃣pts as Lesotho and Sierra Leone played out a 1⃣-1⃣ will fly to Maseru to play Lesotho’s Crocodiles on Sunday, 17th November, on MatchDay Two of the qualifying series.
