Aimufua at the Double as Kwara United Outclass Remo Stars

Kwara United continued their impressive run under the watchful eyes of Coach Suleiman Ashifat as they outclassed reigning champions Remo Stars 3–1 in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 11 encounter at the Rashidi Yekini Main Bowl, George Innih Stadiu, Ilorin, on Saturday.

The Harmony Boys showed class and intent from the onset, playing with determination to consolidate their fine form, while the visitors occasionally posed threats that kept the home fans on edge.

Junior Aimufua opened the scoring for the hosts in the 30th minute, tapping in from close range after Arinze Ogbonna’s header connected with Seun Ogunribide’s long throw. The goal sent the Ilorin crowd into jubilation as Kwara United went into the break with a 1–0 advantage.

The hosts were, however, forced into an early substitution when Akanni Akeem sustained an injury and was replaced by Mohammed Alao.

Kwara United maintained their dominance in the second half, and Babatunde Bright doubled the lead in the 75th minute with a superbly taken free kick from the edge of the box. Aimufua completed his brace in the 87th minute, coolly deceiving the Remo Stars goalkeeper with a composed finish. Jabbar Malik grabbed a consolation goal for the visitors in the 90th minute.

Head coach Ashifat Suleiman expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance, describing the result as a product of discipline, teamwork, and defensive organization.

He dedicated the victory to the SWAN Diamond Jubilee Anniversary awardees, including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Club Chairman Kumbi Titiloye, and veteran sports broadcaster Hammed Adio, among others.

According to Suleiman, the win serves as a morale booster ahead of Kwara United’s upcoming double away fixtures in Matchdays 12 and 13.

With this result, Kwara United now sit fifth on the NPFL log with 16 points from 11 matches.

Junior Aimufua was named Cyteck Man of the Match for his brilliant performance and was personally presented with the award by the sponsor, Engr. Ahmed Olaide.
