Aiteo Cup: Green Berets Eliminates Warri Wolves

Nigeria National League (NNL) side Green Berets are through to the next round of the
2021 Aiteo Cup competition after a 5-4 penalty shootout victory over Warri Wolves on Wensday at the Kwara State Complex Stadium Ilorin, Owosports.com.ng reports.

Green Berets showed great intent during the openinig minutes of the game as they press on and kept the Seasiders at bay, they however didn’t have to wait long as Wakama Hakeem headed home from a perfect delivery to put their noses in front in the 33rd minutes as they held on with the lead into the break.

Warri Wolves came out smoking in the second half as they coach made some vital substitution following the introduction of Williams Sunday, Ijeh Daniel who replaced Mark Daniel and Otu Stanley respectively.

Warri Wolves equalizer came in the 65th minutes through a well taken free kick from Wisdom Jumbo just at the edge of the box to draw the NPFL side level.

Warri Wolves seems to have gotten the lead two minutes later as Paul Obata headed home a sublime cross from Innocent but was flagged off by the assistant referee.

Both teams pressed for the winner in the closing stages of the game, but no further goals was recorded as it ended in a stalemate at full-time which meant penalties would decide who goes through to the second round.

Green Berets however emerged victorious after they came out tops after a 5-4 win as Jimmy missed his decisive kick to send the Coas Speaking Into the next round.

Other results saw Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) leaders Akwa United eliminated after a 1-0 lost to Gateway United in Abuja, another NPFL side Katsina United goes through to the next round after they beat Elkanemi Warriors by 5-4 on penalties.
