Fresh from earning his first call-up to the Super Eagles, Nigerian striker Akor Adams marked the occasion in style by scoring in Sevilla’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Barcelona on Saturday night in La Liga.
The 25-year-old forward, who was recently named in Nigeria’s squad for this month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin, came off the bench in the 61st minutes of the encounter to cap off Sevilla’s dominant performance.
His composed finish in the 96th minute sealed a memorable win for the hosts, just moments after Barcelona were reduced to ten men.
Sevilla opened the scoring through Alexis Sánchez’s 13th-minute penalty, before Isaac Romero doubled the advantage.
Marcus Rashford pulled one back for Barcelona in first-half stoppage time, but Jose Angel Carmona restored Sevilla’s control with a late goal in the 90th minute.
Adams then put the icing on the cake after Gerard Fernandez’s red card, latching onto a clever assist from fellow Nigerian Chidera Ejuke to make it 4-1 in stoppage time.
The goal couldn’t have come at a better moment for Adams, whose fine form strengthens his case for a starting role with the Super Eagles as they hope to book a spot in the 2026 FIFA world cup in America next year.
