Former NPFL Champions and two-time Federation Cup Champions, Akwa United Football Club, have unveiled and announced the appointment of Coach Fatai Osho as their new Head Coach on a one-year contract.
Osho, who served as Chief Coach of Rivers United in their NPFL title-winning 2021/2022 campaign, takes over the technical helm of the Promise Keepers from Coach Ayodeji Ayeni whose contract was not renewed after it expired at the end of last season.
Presenting the gaffer to journalists and stakeholders at a brief unveiling which took place at Godswill Akpabio international stadium, Uyo, earlier today, Wednesday, the Chairman of Akwa United and veteran football administrator, Elder Paul Bassey, described Osho as an experienced tactician who is capable of returning Akwa United to title-winning ways and continental reckoning.
While urging him to bring his wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of his duties, Mr. Bassey pledged the support of state Government and stakeholders in order to make his job easier.
In his response, Osho said that it was an honour to be appointed as Head Coach of “an accomplished club” like Akwa United and disclosed that the lure to work with a “top-notch professional” like Elder Paul Bassey made it easy for him to accept Akwa United’s offer among the numerous offers that he had.
He thanked the Government of Akwa Ibom state for finding him worthy and promised to work hard in order to ensure that Akwa United win laurels and return to playing continental football as soon as possible.
Osho arrives with experience spanning over twelve years, having previously worked at Supreme Court FC, Kogi United, Remo Stars, Enyimba, among others, and will mount the Akwa United dugout throughout the upcoming 2023/2024 Nigerian domestic football season.
