Al-Masry Signs Ex-CHAN Eagles Striker Anthony Okpotu On A 2-Year Deal

Former Super Eagles B team striker, Anthony Okpotu has sealed a deal with Egyptian side, Al-Masry on an undisclosed fee from Qatar SC, reports OwoSports.com.ng.

The 28-year-old forward who started his career in the NPFL with Lobi Stars in 2012 joined the Boss of the Canal Al-Masry having previously played for Libyan side Al-Ittihad Tripoli, US Monastir of Tunisia, Morocco’s Difaa Hassani El Jadidi and Laci of Albania on loan.

A statement released on the club’s official Facebook Page confirmed the signing of the Nigerian striker with all procedures completed.

“The Egyptian club’s Board of Directors, headed by Mr Kamel Abu Ali, completed the procedures for contracting the Nigerian striker Anthony Okpotu, the forward of Qatar SC, with a contract that extends for two seasons, starting from the current season until the end of the 2024/2023 season, after the Egyptian club obtained the player’s dispensation from his club after paying the value of the deal and the agreement made between Mr Kamel Abu Ali, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Club, and Sheikh Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, President of Qatar SC Club and his deputy, Sheikh Suhaim bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, who were thanked by Mr Kamel Abu Ali for their great efforts in completing the deal,” the statement reads.

Anthony Okpotu also commented on the completion of his move via a video posted on the club’s Facebook page

“Al-Masry, I am coming to fight, see you soon!” he said.

The Makurdi-born player was part of the CHAN Eagles team who went to Morocco in 2018, he made six appearances scoring two goals as Nigeria won the Silver medal after losing in the final to the host nation.

Al Masry finished 13th in the 2021/2022 season and will hope Okoptu adds his wealth of experience to the squad when the 2022/2023 league season commences on 15th October 2022.
