In what one can describe as an end to the age long problem facing television rights especially in the sport sector of the country, the National Broadcasting Corporation has through the Federal Government withdrawn the exclusive rights of DSTV.
It comes a sign of relief after the NBC was directed to immediately implement measures aimed at sanitising and re-positioning the broadcast industry.
The new regulations is ending the exclusivity rights of the South Africa hailed cable TV Company, Multichoice owner of DSTV.
According to the statement released by the Minister of Information and culture the new regulation is coming upon the recommendation submitted by the Committee he set up to work out the modalities for implementing the recommendation approved by the President Muhammadu Buhari to re-position the broadcast industry.
The NBC Reform Implementation Committee was inaugurated on the 10th of Oct., 2019 and was chaired by Prof. Armstrong Idachaba and submitted it’s report on Nov.19th the same year.
The Minister noted that the break in Monopoly will boost and maximise utilisation by all the broadcasters of premium content, in order to grow thier platforms and investment in other content.
