Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Amaju Melvin Pinnick has lost his seat in the FIFA Council, Owosports.com.ng reports.
The Delta State born Football Administrator who was seeking re-election, garnered 28 votes, just one short of the 29 votes secured by Souleiman Hassan Waberi of Djibouti, who claimed the fifth and final spot on the council.
The election results saw Fouzi Lekjaa of Morocco topping the list with 49 votes, followed closely by Hani Abou Rida of Egypt and Djibrilla Hima Hamidou of Niger Republic, who both secured 35 votes. Ahmed Yahya of Mauritania and Souleiman Waberi of Djibouti rounded out the top five with 29 votes each.
Pinnick’s loss is a significant blow to Nigerian football, as he was highly favored to retain his seat on the FIFA Council. Despite his defeat, Pinnick’s contributions to Nigerian football will not be forgotten.
The new FIFA Council members will play a crucial role in shaping the future of African football.
