Super Eagles forward, Taiwo Awoniyi scored the only goal as Nottingham Forest defeated his former club Liverpool 1-0 at City Ground, Nottingham in an English Premier League match played on Saturday afternoon.
The 25-year-old Nigerian striker broke the deadluck 10 minutes into second half from a rebound after Liverpool defence line failed to clear a set piece in their box. The goal is Awoniyi third goal of season from 11 league appearances.
Awoniyi became the first player from Nottingham Forest to score in each of his first three Premier League starts at the City Ground.
At 18, Taiwo Awoniyi was snapped up by Liverpool after an impressive 2013 U-17 FIFA world cup campaign in the United Arab Emirates where he notched four goals.
On 31 August 2015, Awoniyi signed for English club Liverpool for a fee of around £400,000 but was immediately loaned out to German team FSV Frankfurt.
And since then he was sent out on loan 7 times in 6 seasons and never played a single minute at the club before being sold.
The win ends Nottingham Forest nine-game winless run while taking them out of the foot of the Premier League table and up to 19th position as they hope to maintain their Premier League status after 23 years absence.
Nottingham Forest next face league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates as the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner hope to continue his scoring run against the traditional big six in the English Premier League.
