The Technical Adviser of Sunshine Stars FC, Deji Ayeni has expressed his satisfaction over his team’s performance despite their 1-0 defeat to Kwara United on Sunday.
Speaking in a postmatch interview, Ayeni stated that the team has improved tactically and are showing a lot of discipline on the pitch-thus the positives he had picked from the game.
“It was an excellent performance from the boys far away from the way we played when we traveled to Enugu Rangers and you can see that there is better improvement from the team. They were a bit compact, played according to tactics and very discipline” he remarked.
The former Ekiti United gaffer believes his team which he said only need to secure some points away from home will escape relegation noting how they have regained back their confidence and the winning mentality.
“I think the league is a marathon and you can’t predict what will happen along the line. We are just trying to restratigise the team, to win their confidence back after seventeen winless games and I believe they can do it”.
He expressed optimism that his team will secure victory when they welcome Wikki Tourist on the match day 30 of the NPFL as he said the Akure Township Stadium is now a fortress that can’t be broken.
“Kwara is my home. The team(Kwara United) have been doing well and they have a fantastic management. Everything is working fine for them so if they fail to deliver,they should blame themselves” said Ayeni while giving his impression about his former where he once played.
Michael Ohanu’s simple tap home in the 6th minute of the encounter was enough for Kwara United to break the 9- year jinx of the Akure based side dominance over the Harmony Boys in their home ground.
Sunshine Stars are currently occupying 18th position on the log with 27 points and Ayeni has now won two games in their last five matches since his appointment as the Manager of the Club after the resignation of Gbenga Ogunbote.
