After months of speculation of who the next Kwara United coach will be following the departure of Abdullahi Biffo, the Harmony Boys have now announced Coach Azeez Mohammed as their new Technical Adviser, Owosports.com.ng reports.
The former Kastina United coach Azeez Mohammed was on Wednesday August 24 2022 unveiled as the new head coach of the club after he penned down a one year deal until 2023.
Elated with his appointment the gaffer expressed his readiness to lead the team to glory in the 2022/2023 season.
“I’m excited with the opportunity to work with this great club, though it a one year contract it’s not a problem i think i can go with that because a coach is as good as to what he can put on ground for any club no matter the length of his contract signed. The moment you do well in your first contract there will be room for another contract to follow”, He told Owosports.com.ng.
Speaking on the the team’s preparation ahead of their first game against AS Douanes of Niger he said, “I think we are on course heading to the preseason in Ikene to see how we can put the team in shape before our first CAF confederation cup game.
He continued, “The advantage we have is that the bulk of the players are around I have seen them I have worked with them for twelve matches before the end of last season as an observer from a very close range i trained with the team aswell and now that I’m fully with the team I think we can navigate our way through the first round of the Confederations cup.
“I know the players, there’s no much difference it just a match it only when you take too serious that when the boys will become too tensed up so we won’t put that pressure on the team we will take it like every other match with it importance and everything God willing we shall overcome”, added.
Not playing in Ilorin the gaffer admitted that they will miss their fans but believed the proximity between Kwara State and Lagos State will afford them the opportunity to some fans around to cheer them to victory.
“Not playing at home we’ll miss our fans but if you look Lagos isn’t far from Ilorin I think we will still have them around to give us that supports”, He concluded.
Kwara United will play their first CAF Confederation cup tie at home against AS Douanes on September 9th 2022 at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena Lagos.
