Bayelsa Queens Secures CAF Women’s Champions League Ticket

Bayelsa Queens on Saturday clinched the WAFU B title of the zonal qualifiers for TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League after defeating Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies 3-0 in the finals played at the Yamoussoukro Stadium in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Nigerian Women League Champions ran riot over their opponent as they were 3-0 up against thier opponent in the first half thanks to goals from Miracle Joseph, Flourish Sabatine Choma and Chinyere Igbomalu who sealed the victory as they go into the break looking assured of victory.

Bayelsa Queens will represent Wafu B at the top-flight women’s continental club competition to be played later this year in Morocco.

Bayelsa Queens took charge of the midfield at the start of the game breaking through the Ghanaian half easily which resulted in the first goal with Miracle Joseph converted from from a penalty kick after her team-mate was brought down in the box.

They extended their lead nine minutes through Sabatine Choma who beat the Ghanaian goalkeeper Safiatu Salifu from close range with a beautiful solo effort.

The Nigerians continued their dominance and four minutes before the break Igbomalu easily tapped in to give Bayelsa the commanding 3-0 advantage at half-time.

The Ghanian Ladies were by far the better side in the second half but could not find a breakthrough the sturdy defence of the Nigerians .

Bayelsa Queens will be hoping to improve and capitalize on their recent fine run of form going in to the Caf Women Champions League but more still need to be done to overcome other other strong opponents like Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa who defeated Hasaacas Ladies 2-0 in the finals to win the last edition.

Africa Sports of Cote d’Ivoire clinched third place after defeating Espoir on Benin 4-0 in the third place playoff match on Saturday.
