The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) September 30th elective congress in Benin City has been reportedly suspended due to the pending court ruling according to information gathered by www.owosports.com.ng.
Recall that on the 15th of September 2022 Justice Inyang Ekwo in the Federal High Court 5 Abuja had ordered that the elections be stopped.
The court, presiding over the matter in suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1376/2022, also ruled that all parties should maintain status quo and adjourned further proceedings till October 31.
This was after the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria filed a suit against the federation over unequal representation of all the five statutory bodies making up the NFF in terms of voting rights and representation on the NFF Board, its Congress and substanding committees.
The claimants are Harrison Jalla, Victor Baribote, Austin Popo and PFAN, while the defendants are the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF boss Amaju Pinnick and sports minister Sunday Dare.
Going by the court order the September 30th election in Benin City will not go down as scheduled.
“The NFF Election slated for September 30 is off. Information reaching NSM Media has it on good authority that the election will not hold as planned due to a pending court case and other sundry issues”, According to Canadian based journalist Adewale Ajayi on a WhatsApp platform NSM Reloaded.
According to him a new date and possibly venue will be communicated in due course.
“A new date and possibly venue will be communicated in due course that is not to say the election has been moved from Benin but we await further information in this regard”, He wrote.
He however noted that all the presidential candidate has been scheduled to hold an emergency meeting with the Minister for Youth and Sports Development Honourable Sunday Dare.
“In the meantime, all the presidential candidates in the forthcoming NFF presidential election have been invited to an emergency meeting with the honourable Minister of youth and sports. At that meeting, the candidates will know the new direction and see the bigger picture. For now, the venue of the meeting is the HM’s conference room, Moshood Abiola National stadium in Abuja”. He concluded.
