Team Nigeria continued its impressive run at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) U18 and U20 Championship, securing more gold medals and setting championship records in front of an elated home crowd in Abeokuta.

The country’s young athletes delivered standout performances across multiple events, reinforcing Nigeria’s status as a powerhouse in African athletics.

🥇 U20 Women’s 4x100m Relay – Gold for Nigeria

The Nigerian quartet of Lucy Nwankwo, Success Oyibu, Anita Enaruna, and Chioma Cynthia Nweke raced to victory in the U20 women’s 4x100m relay, clocking a time of 45.58 seconds. South Africa settled for Silver, while Ivory Coast claimed the Bronze medal.

🥇 U18 Girls’ Medley Relay Championship Record Broken

In the U18 medley relay, Nigeria’s team delivered a record-breaking performance, finishing in 2:08.16 to set a new championship record. The time eclipsed the previous mark held by a Nigerian team from the 2015 edition in Mauritius. South Africa and Botswana took Silver and Bronze, respectively.

🥇 Prestina Ochonogor Lands Long Jump Gold

Prestina Ochonogor was in superb form in the U20 women’s long jump, soaring to a distance of 6.71 metres. The effort not only earned her the gold medal but also set a new Championship Record and Season’s Best. It stands as the third-longest jump of her career and her best since the 2024 National Olympic Trials.

🇳🇬 Potential Podium Sweep in U18 Women’s 200m

Nigeria could be on course for another clean sweep in the U18 women’s 200m final. Miracle Ezechukwu, Rosemary Nwankwo, and Perezide Sigah all won their respective heats in convincing fashion, advancing to the final where they will aim to dominate the podium once again.

With the momentum firmly in their favour, Team Nigeria looks poised to close out the championships on a high, continuing a gold-laden campaign that has thrilled fans and underlined the country’s rich athletics talent.
