The confededation of Afrian football (CAF) President, Patrice Motsepe has arrived Cameroon on Monday to discuss the hosting of the African Cup of Nations, AFCON in January 2022.
Motsepe flew in to Cameroon alongside FECAFOOT President, Samuel Eto’o from Doha, Qatar where CAF Executive had met on Sunday to deliberate on the future of TotalEnergiesAFCON and agreed to go ahead with the tournament.
According to reports, Motsepe’s visit to Cameron became imperative on heels of several deliberations that has so far casted doubt on the hosting of the continental showpiece.
“We have a commitment to the people of Cameroon and Africa but we are positive. We will give you feedback tomorrow but we want to give good image of Cameroon and Africa to the world” Motsepe told newsmen in Cameroon on Monday.
He is expected to take account of the level of preparation before considering the next action.
Recall that the 33rd African Cup of Nations was earlier postponed to January 2022 from June/July 2021 due to coronavirus pandemic.
There has been an apparent rejection from some quarters to stop AFCON from holding due to the rise of Omicron variants of Covid-19.
European Clubs Association (ECA) has also threatened not to release African players for the tournament billed for January 9- February 6.
