The Confederation of African Football (CAF) in partnership with global sportswear brand PUMA has unveiled ITRI, the official match ball for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, set to kick off on 21 December 2025.

The newly designed ball pays homage to Morocco’s rich cultural heritage, drawing inspiration from the country’s centuries-old zellij art, a form of geometric mosaic tilework that reflects unity, craftsmanship, and tradition.

According to CAF, the name ITRI meaning “star” in Berber symbolizes ambition and excellence, while also referencing the iconic star on Morocco’s national flag and the recurring star motifs found in zellij designs.

A Fusion of Culture and Technology

The ball’s design features intricate geometric patterns, including central star shapes, floral petal outlines, and circular symmetry — each carrying cultural meaning. The star geometry represents light and aspiration; petal motifs signify celebration and growth; and circular symmetry embodies the unity of the 24 nations competing for Africa’s most prestigious football title.

The red and green colour palette mirrors Morocco’s national colours, symbolizing passion, hope, and pride. It also includes “Flow of Movement” patterns meant to capture the rhythm and flair of African football.

Beyond its artistic design, ITRI is built using PUMA’s Orbita 6 technology, providing high performance, stability, and precision — qualities expected at the highest level of competition.

Voices Behind the Design

CAF’s Creative Development Manager, Mohamed Ghonemi, said the ball represents the essence of African football

“Created for the rhythm of African football, the AFCON 2025 ball brings together art, motion, and a design shaped by African spirit and Moroccan craftsmanship. It’s been a privilege to collaborate with PUMA on something that unites every nation at the tournament through a shared sense of connection.”

On PUMA’s part, Peter Dangl, Director of EEMEA Distribution, said the collaboration highlights the brand’s continued commitment to African football:

“We’re proud to unveil the ITRI ball – the official match ball of AFCON 2025 and a true symbol of African football’s spirit. Combining Moroccan artistry with advanced performance technology, ITRI celebrates both the host nation’s heritage and the unity of the continent.”

The ITRI ball will make its debut in the opening match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, marking a new chapter in African football’s showcase event.
