CAF Unveils Official Match Ball For TotalEnergies AFCON


The confederation of African football (CAF) has unveiled  a new official ball to be used at the next TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations coming up in Cameroon next year, can reports.

In an official statement on its website, CAF announced on Tuesday that the new official match ball named ‘Toghu’ is fashioned after a Cameroonian traditional cloth.

The statement reads apart : “The new official match ball, named “Toghu” after the traditional outfit that is very popular in Cameroon, will be used by the 24 teams during the 52 matches to be played at the competition between 09 January 2022 and 06 February 2022″

It further said “Toghu’  is a multi-coloured and finely embroidered outfit. A ‘Toghu’ was initially designed for Royalty in the North West region of Cameroon but has since been adopted Cameroonians as an outfit for special occasions”.

Toghu is said to be an acronym for
T- Tradition
O- Ornate
G- Glory
H- Heritage
U- Unity

According to CAF, The new match ball is “designed to meet the highest standards in the game, the Ball features simple technological features including a smart panel configuration and it’s FIFA approved to be used at the highest levels of the games”

CAF Umbro Neo pro was the official match ball used in AFCON 2019.

CAF has always considered the intrinsic values, identity and National symbols of the hosting country in designing official ball for the competition
