CAFCL: Ifeanyi Onyebuchi Confident Of Plateau United Ahead Of Esperance Clash

Plateau United defender Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, is upbeat about his team’s chances qualification, saying they were willing to do anything to get to the group stage of the 2022/23 CAF Champions League.

The 2017 NPFL champions will play Tunisian side Esperance in a two-legged encounter for a spot in the money winning stage.

Ifeanyi who joined Plateau United from relegated MFM FC in first transfer window of the new season, claimed that he and his teammates already had a goal in mind which is reaching the group stage of the continent top club competition.

“We all know what is at stake at the moment. As a team, we are working hard to ensure that we realize our collective objective. We are very focused and battle-ready for Esperance of Tunisia,” Ifeayin said.

The 22-year-old player added that he is optimistic Plateau United is on the right track to secure a spot in the competition’s group stage given the training efforts made thus far and the counsel from their coaches.

“Their pedigree in the competition does not scare us as we are confident of overcoming them here in Abuja and getting another decent result in Tunis to get the job done.” he added.

He praised Plateau United management, led by General Manager Pius Henwan, for the welfare plan put in place for the team and reaffirmed his players’ commitment to the group as a whole.

The Peace Boys defeated Gabonese side Aso Stade Mandji 3-2 on aggregate to qualify for the second round preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League.

MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja will host the first leg which comes up on Sunday, 9th October, 2022, with the return leg slated for Tunisia the following week.
